Meet Your Instructor - Outdoor Recreation

James Gould PhD, has taught Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management for 20 years and continues exploring and promoting recreation resources along Colorado’s Front Range. This includes producing the YouTube channel RecYourSelfLife that is devoted to local recreation, information, resources, interviews and various forms of recreational activities found on the Front Range. Those videos can be found here.

Various outdoor activities: fishing, kayaking, mountain biking, and hiking in nature.

He continues research on the psychology of leisure behavior and the positive therapeutic outcomes associated with certain types of recreation experiences that affect mental health and wellness. Acting on this knowledge includes reaching those that otherwise might not participate in a recreational activity without a helpful friend in a relaxing environment void of group pressures.

Professor Gould taught kayaking, camping & backpacking, adventure recreation and social psychology of leisure classes at Clemson University before teaching Recreation, Tourism & Hospitality at the University of Northern Colorado. He is an experienced distance runner and former sprint kayaker medaling at the USA Canoe & Kayak National Championships and Worlds Masters Games. Other common pursuits include hiking and flyfishing in Colorado, skiing Southern Wyoming and mountain biking the Front Range.
